APEX Pro Regal falls into the category of what I call “mid level” massage chairs. Entry level chairs are your basic budget options. Mid level massage chairs on the other hand offer something more in terms of technology and features, and are for people who don’t mind spending a few thousand dollars more.
If we were to talk strictly about performance, the APEX Pro Regal is actually pretty decent. It gives a solid full body massage by effectively making use of the 3D rollers and the chair’s 28 airbags. But in my mind it’s always going to be another chair that “bites the dust”!
As is the case with most massage chairs today, the Pro Regal is wayyy overpriced! There’s absolutely no ways in hell a mid level chair should cost almost $4.5K! $4.5K is what you’d expect to pay for a 4D chair. In fact, there are chairs with 4D rollers that cost less than this, believe it or not!
As you can probably tell by now this is gonna be one of those reviews where we go through the whole song and dance, but you still know my final recommendation before we even get to all of that.
Either way, I encourage you to keep reading because towards the end of this review i’ll be sharing some alternate recommendations for those of you interested in buying a 3D massage chair.
Below is a quick overview of the Pro Regal! (Video Credit: Massage Chair Deals)
Now let’s explore some of the key features of the Pro Regal in greater detail!
By far the biggest standout feature of the Pro Regal are the 3D rollers. In terms of roller technology, 2D is the oldest, 3D is kinda new, and 4D is the latest technology which you can only find in a handful of massage chairs.
The “D” in “3D” stands for dimensional. 3D rollers can move in 3 dimensions. They move in the vertical dimension, which is along the back as indicated by the vertical arrow. They move in the horizontal dimension, which is across the back as indicated by the horizontal arrow. And they move into and out of the back, as shown by the arrow perpendicular to the horizontal and vertical arrows.
The fuss is there for a reason. Because of their ability to protrude “in/out”, 3D rollers gives users the ability to alter and control intensity. This is not something you can do with 2D rollers, as the basic roller motion is restricted to vertical and horizontal movements only. This “in/out” ability of 3D rollers makes the experience feel more closer to an actual massage being performed by a trained therapist!
The APEX Pro Regal boasts 3D quad (4) rollers that can traverse a total of 32” from the neck to lower back. This 32” roller coverage tightly contours to a user’s spine, and as such is often referred to as “S-Track” (in case you didn’t know, the spine is “S” shaped!).
When you buy a massage chair today, you want it to work effectively not only for yourself, but also for your loved ones. That is, you want a chair that can massage your spouse, your kids, your in-laws, and yourself without having to change much in every sitting/session.
It’s a feature where the chair’s on-board computer maps and locates various points on a user’s body. This information is then used by the rollers to ensure massage is as customized as it can be to that specific body type.
Just as roller capability improves from 2D to 3D, so does body scanning. In other words, the more advanced the roller technology, the more comprehensive will be the body scanning.
In terms of overall user flexibility, the APEX Pro Regal is able to accommodate users ranging from 5’0 – 6’3 ft in height, weighing up to a maximum of 265 lbs. Not the best, but definitely not the worst either. I’ve seen chairs that perform much worse as far as user flexibility is concerned.
This one had me scratching my head to be honest! The concept behind next gen airbags is straightforward: reduce the number of airbags, so as to decrease the pumps, motors, and valves required. Consequently your overall power consumption goes down.
And that kind of leaves me baffled to be honest. Because if power consumed is still high (relatively speaking), you’re not really gaining much are you!? The 28 airbags are located in different areas of the chair such as the shoulders, arms/forearms, calves/feet, waist, thighs, and back.
For those of you who may be wondering, airbags are another vital component to a massage chair. Because rollers are limited in terms of how far they can reach, airbags are responsible for massaging the remaining areas of the body such as the calves, arms, shoulders etc.
In addition to this, airbags are also responsible for holding the body firmly in place. This is important because the body needs to be absolutely still in order for the rollers to function at their best.
If there is one thing I really like about the APEX Pro Regal, it’s the fact that it comes preloaded with 10 different auto massage routines!
Auto modes are great because they don’t require any manual input or adjustments from the user. All you do is simply pick the auto mode you desire, sit back and let the chair do its thing!
The 10 auto modes are as follows:
Each of these 3 features could be their own separate points, but I’ve lumped them together as they’re all pretty standard.
This is something you find in pretty much all massage chairs these days. Essentially manufacturers design the chairs such that they sit on a sliding base, and as you recline back, the chair slides forward on its base. This simple improvement allows users to place the chair with minimal wall clearance.
If you buy a massage chair in 2019, you almost come to expect that zero gravity is a feature that’s included! It’s a common feature and because of that, there’s not many chairs without it. But other than sounding cool, what is zero gravity anyways? Simply said, it’s a recline position in which your body experiences the least stresses!
Thus far, we’ve had an in-depth look at the Pro Regal’s main features and all that it has to offer. We’ve also looked at its shortcomings, the big one being its price. So what now?
To give you a good idea of what’s out there, I’ll be comparing the Pro Regal to 2 other massage chairs, both of which come equipped with 3D rollers. Specifically, the comparison will be against Titan’s Pro Executive and Titan’s Pro Jupiter XL. As far as 3D massage chairs are concerned, both are fantastic options!
Now let’s look at how these 2 Titan chairs compare to the Pro Regal!
In almost every way both Titan chairs trump the Pro Regal! It’s not just the fact that they’re significantly cheaper! To make it blatantly clear, here’s a few examples:
The proof is in the pudding, right!? With all that being said, my final recommendation is as follows:
Irrespective, either Titan chair is a fantastic option if you ask me.
As you’re probably aware by now, there’s quite a few options when it comes to buying massage chairs, especially online. The best and probably the most honest advice I can give you is to take your time and do your homework before pulling the trigger and buying. Spend some time checking out the prices on different sites, and only decide at that point!
While i’m at it, now’s a good time to also disclose that I’m an affiliate of massage chair deals. What does that mean? It means if you decide to buy a chair from massage chair deals using any one of the links placed in this post, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Part of the perks of being an affiliate is I get special privileges. One such privilege is being able to offer my readers an exclusive discount on all chairs!
While it may not sound like much, 5% is pretty substantial when you do the math. For example, 5% off a chair that costs $3K is $150. Don’t know about you, but there’s about 10 different things I can think of using that $150 on!
I hope this review post was insightful. If you got some value, please consider sharing on the social channels. See you in the next one!
