Don’t get me wrong I love massagers. In fact, the motivation to start this site came after I bought my massage chair. To date, it’s one of my most prized possessions, and I say that without any hesitation. But…..unfortunately technology can not solve all of our problems. Truth be told, I don’t think it ever will. Massagers are awesome because of how convenient, consistent, and versatile they are, but they lack one very important element: human touch. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a trained therapist with the right touch blows any and all massagers out of the water.
This very important point ties into today’s post. Whoever you may be, trained therapist, massage enthusiast, or just an ordinary joe like me, owning a massage table could prove to be an important purchase.
Granted, massage tables are not meant for everyone. However, there are a group of people who would definitely benefit from these nifty, easy to carry devices. If you’re one of the people below, you should consider a portable massage table!
Kinda sounds like a fast food type of thing…doesn’t it!? I’ve seen tons upon tons of “massage on the go” type businesses crop up over the last couple years. I’ve never used one, but supposedly these trained and qualified therapists come to you, and provide you with a service (not that kind!). It’s quick, convenient, and simple. Do you see how portable massage tables could potentially be quite useful in this scenario? No hassles, no heavy equipment, everything can be packed or unpacked easily with minimal effort. If you happen to be a mobile therapist reading this post, leave a comment and let us more about your business. I’m interested in learning more about some of the challenges you face!
We all have that one thing we love. For some, that could be yoga, getting their nails done, having a spa day, and so on. For me, it’s treating myself to a one hour full body massage sesh. I find nothing to be quite as invigorating and relaxing, so when I can afford to do so…I pay the $80 and treat myself. Having a proper massage table is a game changer, because it allows you to have a similar setup to the massage clinic right at home. In fact, you could even step it up a notch if you really wanted to!
Right at your home you could setup a separate massage room with scented oils and candles, low lighting, and relaxing sounds. Sure, it’s probably not going to be the same experience with your spouse massaging you instead of a trained therapist, but hey it’s free and costs you zero dollars!
If you’re interested in the art of massage with the goal of eventually becoming a masseuse or therapist, you may want to consider a portable massage table. This can prove especially useful should you wish to practice your technique at home. Performing a massage on someone laying on a bed or sofa is not the same as massaging on a table. In fact, it’s nowhere close. In terms of the patient, he or she will be more comfortable on an actual massage table rather than a bed or sofa. Likewise for the masseuse, he or she will be able to perform better technique on a table.
If you’ve decided to buy a portable massage table, there’s a few things you’ll want to think about. Let’s quickly go through 10 of these!
So how do you find the best portable massage table? Go through the 10 important points above and use them as a guide before buying!
Just as the name suggests, this really is an “all inclusive” massage table. As we’ll see in the pros and cons, it comes with not only the basic features to get you started, but also advanced options for the more experienced therapist.
I think it’s awesome that Sierra includes fitted sheets as part of the purchase. Sure you can always buy sheeting from your local superstore, but how sure are you it will fit? When it comes to sheeting, size has always been an inconvenience for me. I usually end up returning and going back a couple times before I find the right fit. It’s nice that you don’t have to do that in this case. The fitted sheets are 100% cotton and are meant to cover the face cradle and the massage table leather padding.
A massage table that’s uncomfortable is like a car without tires: both are useless. You may as well massage right on the floor instead! That being said, the SC-901 doesn’t disappoint as far as comfort is concerned. The leather upholstery is cushioned by 2.5 inches of high density, foam padding. It’s thick enough to lay on comfortably while you undergo an intense massage!
Adjusting table height is simple and easy. There are 2 knobs located on the table legs that can be adjusted to vary table height. You can go from 23” minimum height to a max of 33” (with increments of 1”). I appreciate the low 23” height since I am not that tall and having a lower table height would be more comfortable for me to massage. Again, it all boils down to preference.
The table itself is constructed from beech hardwood, and the legs are supported by tension wires. Sierra backs the frame with a 5 year manufacturers warranty. This is very important as it gives you peace of mind should anything happen in the future.
Assembly and disassembly is quite simple. The table itself folds open/close without any special setup. It also comes with a handy carry bag. Carry bags are a must have when it comes to portable massage tables in my opinion. Without a carry bag, there is no portability!
The facial cradle is adjustable and can be removed if required. Both the armrest and arm support can be removed as well. I like the idea of having detachable parts and accessories because they make cleanup and maintenance that much more easier. What’s also neat with detachable parts is that you only carry what you need. If you don’t want the armrests, simply leave them out. One less thing to carry!
As far as portable massage tables are concerned, I’d say this is just a tad pricey. You can check out the latest pricing on amazon by clicking here.
Properly treated and installed hardwood should not creak. However, wood is likely to deteriorate over time if not taken care of. Humidity is one of the many factors that causes wood to deteriorate. Treat your wood well, and you won’t have a problem with squeaking noises. I’ve listed this as a con because squeaking is unfortunately a limitation of wooden frames. Even still, I don’t recommend anything other than hardwood, because the pros far outweigh the cons!
In my opinion this is the best portable massage table simply because it offers everything for both the beginner and advanced user. If you’re just starting out with massage, this is a great option because of how simple it is to assemble and setup. Similarly, if you’re a qualified therapist looking for a reliable, dependable solution while on the go, I think this may be your best bet!
I’ve given you my #1 pick for best portable massage table (see above), but in 2nd place and not too far off is this table from BestMassage.
Here are 2 things I like about it:
And 2 things I don’t particularly like:
A very good choice for anyone a budget. However, be aware that you will need to buy sheets as this doesn’t come with any!
Someone said it right when they said there is beauty in simplicity, and that’s exactly what this next table exemplifies! If you’re looking for a basic table without any accessories or attachments, this is it.
Here are 2 things I like about it:
And 2 things I don’t particularly like:
The beauty is in its simplicity. If you’re looking for a massage table and nothing else, consider this!
Simple and easy to do, but also just as easy not to. Word of advice…..stop being lazy and make it a habit to routinely clean your massage table. If you do it right, it should take you less than 5 minutes. Get a damp to dry microfiber cloth, spray on some warm water and wipe down. You can use light detergents as well.
Slow and steady wins the race, remember that one? It’s so important to take your time when it comes to folding open/close your massage table. Why? Because you don’t want to risk damaging the pivot points in the legs. Not to mention the tension cables are also sensitive, so it’s best to open/close slowly.
There’s many times we all pass on reading instruction manuals. This should not be one of those times. The instruction manual not only tells you exactly how to assemble/disassemble, but also talks about long term care and maintenance. Do yourself a favor, and spend 10-15 minutes of your time to read it!
And that brings us to the end of this post. If you managed to read the entire thing, you should have a very good idea of not only what’s out there, but also what you should consider before buying a portable massage table. Already own one? What’s your best portable massage table? Is it different from the 3 I have shared above? Leave a comment below and let me know! Last but not least, if you enjoyed reading, please consider sharing on the socials. I’ll see you in the next one!
