The Osaki OS 1000 is a very basic, entry level massage chair. Unlike most of the other chairs offered by Osaki, the 1000 is down to the bare bones.
But even though it packs half the features of some of the higher end models, the OS 1000 is still an incredibly capable unit. Keep reading as I break down the details below!
These days everything is priced, marketed, and sold based on features. Look at cell phones for example; every year there’s some “fancy” new feature and 20 reasons why you need to have it.
Massage chairs are no different, and the marketing around them remains the same. I’m all in for improvements that enhance the overall experience, but it’s the gimmicks I couldn’t care less for!
However, as far as massage is concerned, it actually does pretty well believe it or not!
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again:
If you have rollers that are poorly designed, not only is massage ineffective, it’s actually uncomfortable and even painful! The roller system, in my opinion “makes or breaks” a chair.
The Osaki OS 1000 massage chair has what’s called an “intelligent 4 roller system”. Here’s what’s cool about it:
One thing I love about all Osaki units is that they all perform a computerized full body scan. This is true for the lower end units such as the Osaki OS 1000, all the way up to the higher end 4D Japan model.
How does it work? Before you start a massage, the chair’s computer system will scan your entire body frame after which it will select optimum settings to suit your body specifically. The end result is an experience that’s suited to your body type specifically.
The Osaki OS 1000 massage chair is capable of performing a total of 4 different massage techniques:
If you’re the type of person who doesn’t like messing around with manual settings, you’ll be pleased to know that the OS 1000 has 5 automatic programs to choose from:
I love these preset modes because they’re simple and straightforward. I personally, 90% of the time always use auto modes when I jump into my massage chair. After a long day of work, the last thing I need is to be messing about with different settings!
I forgot to mention this above, but the Osaki OS 1000 also does a vibration massage on both the seat and calves. Probably not the biggest deal, but worth mentioning for the purpose of this review.
It doesn’t have a preset zero gravity position, but it still does recline to about 170 degrees.
What is the zero gravity angle anyways? According to emassagechair, zero gravity is when the torso to leg angle is about 128 degrees, with an acceptable variation of 7 degrees either way.
Unfortunately the OS 1000 is unable to create this “optimum” torso to leg angle even though it can recline pretty far back.
It’s important but not as important as having a decent roller system. Not having zero gravity is by no means the end of the world. In fact my own chair has zero gravity, but I hardly use it. Instead I always recline as far back as I can!
The Osaki OS 1000 massage chair comes in 3 different colors: black, brown, or cream. What color should you pick? That’s really up to you, but here’s the steps I go through when picking out the colors for expensive chairs and furniture:
Whatever you pick, remember that there’s no right or wrong. If that cream chair looks way too good to pass up on, get it!
One thing in particular I love about the OS 1000 is its size. Measuring 48” high X 29” wide X 45” deep in an upright position, and 48” high X 29” wide X 72”deep in a reclined position, the OS 1000 is quite a bit smaller than some of the larger units. If you have limited space to work with, this is what you ought to consider.
This goes for all Osaki units, not just the 1000. I think they do a really good job with the remote controls by making the interface and layout as user friendly as possible. As such, there’s no messing around trying to figure out how to recline or change speeds. There’s only one thing I dislike about the OS 1000 remote: it’s not wireless.
You have a total of 3 different width settings to choose from: narrow, medium, or wide. Narrow works really well if you have tension and pain in the central area of your back. Medium is probably what I’d default to most times, and wide is great for working the lats and other side muscles in the back.
The Osaki OS 1000 massage chair comes equipped with rollable caster wheels which makes it incredibly easy to move the chair from one place to another. This isn’t just important for initial assembly and install, but for future relocation also. What’s the proper way to move the chair? Lift up the leg ottoman, and lift and pull the chair at a 45 degree angle.
The next step up from the OS 1000 are the following models: OS 2000, OS 3000, and OS 4000T. As the model number increases, so does the price i.e. OS 4000T is the most expensive from the lot. Let’s look at some of the key differences between the OS 1000 and 2000:
The above 6 are the main differences between both units.
It all depends on how you look at it. Yes if you need a larger chair, but don’t wish to spend more than $2000. In this case the OS 2000 would be perfect. No, if you don’t care much for any of the additional features mentioned above.
Give it some thought and decide what’s important to you. Also, if you’ve set a budget, try your best to not exceed it!
Is the OS 1000 for you? There are 3 types of people who should consider this chair:
If you’re any one of the 3 people above, then you should definitely consider the OS 1000!

If you’ve been following my blogs, you’ll notice I don’t hide anything. I’m very transparent in not only disclosing if I make a commission, but also if a particular product is rubbish.
Anyways, here’s why you may wanna consider buying from massage chair deals:
You have a few other alternatives:
And of course you can check local massage stores in your area!
The Osaki OS 1000 is one of my favorite massage chairs under $2000, and even though it doesn’t boast a ton of features, it still gives an awesome, relaxing massage. If some of the features we previously discussed (zero gravity, heated pads, and foot rollers) are not important to you, definitely consider the OS 1000!
Lastly, I hope you found this post useful. If you did, a share on the socials would be massively appreciated!
