It’s been a while since I last did a massage chair review, so I thought now’s a good time as any! Today we’ll be looking at fairly recent release from Osaki. It’s an intermediate massage chair that features 3D rollers, and an impressive 53” L-Track (or SL if you like).
Is this chair worth considering, or like many of the new releases, is it bang on average? Don’t worry we’ll go through a detailed review, with a final recommendation supported by comparisons towards the end. For now, here is a quick intro on what the Otamic is capable of.
Before we get into the nitty gritty details, let’s get some housekeeping items outta the way.
Now that we got that outta the way, let’s look at a few of the key features that define the Otamic! You would’ve seen some of these in the introductory video, but we’ll talk about it below in a lot more detail.
If you’ve ever tried a 3D massage chair before, especially an Osaki one, this is not much different. I guess it’s a good thing because when it comes to rollers, Osaki massage chairs actually do pretty well in my opinion.
For those who are new to massage chairs, 3D rollers are a fairly new technology that allows for a much better massage experience than was possible previously. It really has given massage chairs a chance to compete with other automated massage products.
It’s a pity, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Coming back to the topic, 3D rollers have been a game-changer in more ways than one. The main reason for this of course is the introduction of high intensity massage.
Let’s look at how 3D rollers function. 3D stands for 3-dimensional. Essentially it means the rollers can move in 3 different directions: up and down along the vertical axis, side to side along the horizontal axis, and in/out. This in/out motion is what differentiates 3D rollers from their 2D predecessors.
Not that it’s entirely relevant to this post, but there’s also massage chairs you can find these days with 4D rollers. As you would’ve already guessed, 4D rollers are superior than 3D, and that’s because they have automatic roller speed control which is yet another big improvement.
There’s no right or wrong answer, and it varies from one person to another. What works for one person may not be enough for another, and that’s what it really boils down. The more technologically advanced the roller, generally the more intense the massage experience, and also the more varied.
Think about what your needs are specifically and then decide.
Auto routines are a quick and easy way to enjoy an awesome massage! If you’re lazy like me, the last thing you wanna do when you get home is mess around trying to figure out the right settings on your massage chair.
You simply sit back, push a button or two, and off you go! This is why people decide to invest in a massage chair to begin with. This is why I invested in a massage chair!
We talked about the importance of auto modes, but I’ve not said much about the auto modes on this chair specifically. The modes themselves are pretty well designed and choreographed, definitely no issue there. There’s a good variety of mild, medium, and high intensity programs to pick from.
Is heat therapy a nice to have fad, or is it something that’s actually important when it comes to massage chairs? Everyone has their own opinion on this, but mine is that heat therapy is an absolute must!
I’ve always found that application of heat prior to or during massage makes the experience not only more comfortable (and bearable!), but also a heck of a lot more effective. Heat has always worked for me, and for this reason I recommend always picking massage chairs which have good heat coverage in various areas of the chair.
That being said the Otamic isn’t too bad, as it has both lower back and foot heat therapy.
What I’ve found is that most entry level chairs have lower back heat therapy, this goes for pretty much all chairs. The next level up have lower back and foot heat therapy, and then the really expensive chairs have heated back and foot rollers, in addition to the traditional heating pads.
Space saving recline: it sure does sound pretty fancy, huh? Well I’ll tell you what, if you’re really tight on space with only a few inches to spare, this could be a game-changer!
In essence, it allows massage chairs to be placed in constrained spaces, which otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Of course space saving recline doesn’t address everything, nor should it!
If you’re tight for space you still need to do your due diligence and consider the following things:
I’ve always said that buying the right massage chair is a combination of research, timing, and may be a little bit of fortune. Why fortune? Simply because massage chairs come in and out crazy fast.
In fact, there’s at least several different discontinued massage chairs I can think of that were best sellers for years! That’s why I say timing and fortune is important, and of course research. Your research shouldn’t stop here at this post. If it did, you’ll be doing yourself a big disservice.
To get a good idea of how capable the Otamic is, we’ll be comparing it to the Osaki Pro First Class as well as the Ador 3D Allure (which is also manufactured under the Titan Osaki umbrella).
Looking at the above table, there’s no doubt that both the First Class and the Allure are far more superior than the Otamic, and that too in more ways than one!
What it boils down to is this: if you’re looking for a 3D chair but not overly concerned with what features you’ll be getting (such as auto modes, dedicated calf rollers etc.), then the Otamic is still a fantastic chair to consider. It’s got the latest in terms of Osaki technology, it’s got a super long track, and can give a solid massage.
Whichever 3 you pick from, you won’t be disappointed. It really comes down to your price point and budget, and how important things like more auto modes, and calf rollers are to you. We’re all different, so take your time to think it through!
And with that I bid you farewell and best of luck! If you do have any unanswered questions about the Otamic or any other massage chair for that matter, please do not hesitate to drop a comment down below. Otherwise, we’ll see you in the next one!
