Welcome back to yet another massage chair review! Today we’ll be reviewing the incredibly beautiful Escape: a chair designed and manufactured by the folks over at Osaki.
I’ll give you a hint: see that space pod capsule like contraption? It provides a bit of an “escape” from reality when you step into the massage chair. Does this actually promote and enhance relaxation, or is this just unnecessary hype!? If you ask me, I think the capsule is awesome innovation and something that’s been long coming for massage chairs.
The space capsule won’t solve this completely but at least it takes away from all the distractions a little bit. Kudos to Osaki for doing things a little differently here!
In terms of roller technology, 4D rollers are the crème de la crème. When it comes to massage chair rollers, it goes like this:
Does this mean you should not consider 2D/3D chairs and only buy a 4D chair? That’s what a sales person might tell you because 4D chairs are hella expensive. Absolutely not! There are some awesome 2D/3D chairs in the market that can give any other chair a run for their money. Also it comes down to what you as a consumer are looking for.
If you are one of those looking for a 4D chair, then read on! To truly appreciate the functionality of 4D rollers, you first need to understand how 2D and 3D rollers function.
4D rollers are basically one step up from 3D. In a 4D chair, you get what’s known as automatic speed control. In other words, you don’t need to manually adjust speed as you would on a 2D/3D chair. It’s automatic and happens as needed by the chair’s rollers based on the massage technique being employed.
Now that you’re well versed on 4D rollers, let’s briefly talk about roller track (30” S-Track on the Escape). In order for rollers to effectively move from point A to point B, they need to be mounted on a track of some sort.
Just like there’s different types of rollers, there’s different types of roller tracks. The 2 most common are:
Everyone has their own opinion, but if you wanna know mine…..I prefer L-Tracks over S-Tracks, and that’s solely based on the additional coverage you get with an L-Track. To me coverage is much more important than stretch, and even though L-Track chairs are restrictive in their stretch routines, they more than make up for this by having that extra coverage.
We touched on the space capsule cover earlier in the post, but it needs to be mentioned again because this one feature defines what the Escape is all about!
If you truly want to mimic a human massage, then it’s not just the massage itself, but also the ambience that needs to be replicated. Osaki have done exactly that with the Escape!
The only downside is that the aromatherapy functions by means of a replaceable cartridge. I would have much preferred the Escape to have a built in diffuser capable of accepting essential oils. Beggars can’t be choosers I guess, but it’s worth mentioning to you all!
One of my favorite things about the Escape is how easy it is to operate. Osaki have done a tremendous job in laying out both the remote and multi controllers.
Not only is it super cool, but it’s also just as functional. Being able to quickly recline backward/forward mid-massage using the knob dial is an incredibly useful feature in the event you need to pause/interrupt your massage.
Oh and there’s also a USB connection to charge your phone or any other smart devices. Pretty cool!
Heat therapy is much more than helping you feel toasty on a cold winter day. Yes warmth on the body does feel great, but when it comes to massage, there’s much more to it than just that.
When it comes to heat therapy on massage chairs, the Escape does a fairly decent job. Unlike most chairs, the Escape has heating elements on both the lumbar and calf areas. Most chairs only have lumbar heating pads.
However, I am a little disappointed with Osaki and here’s why:
Therefore, I was expecting to see the same employed on the Escape. Heated rollers are that much more effective because heat is applied everywhere the rollers traverse, whereas with heating pads it’s local to one area.
Another aspect of the Escape that Osaki have really taken care of is the air compression massage delivered by the 36 airbags. These 36 airbags help deliver massage to areas that the rollers are unable to target and reach such as the calves, feet, arms, hands, shoulders, and waist/hips.
A really cool feature on the Escape is the oscillating seat and airbag. It’s hard to appreciate what this is exactly by looking at the image above, so I recommend checking out the video below (0:35 onward specifically!). This swaying of hips is a great way to stretch out the hips and waist!
Note: The Escape also comes loaded with dual spinning foot rollers on either side of the footrest. These work in tandem with the foot airbags to provide a comprehensive foot massage consisting of rolling, kneading, and compression techniques.
To be able to best answer this question we need to see how the Escape compares to other similar 4D massage chairs. There aren’t as many 4D chairs as there are 2D and 3D. However for this comparison we will be seeing how the Escape does against Osaki’s OS Paragon, and one of my personal favorite (possibly best massage chair right now!?), the OHCO M.8.
From the above table, it should be pretty clear that both the OHCO M.8 and the Pro Paragon eclipse the Escape. Both of these chairs are far more superior than the Escape in terms of features and functionality.
What chair should you pick from the 3? All 3 chairs are awesome in their own right, but if you want the best and spending $$$ is not a concern, the OHCO M.8 is your best bet! If you’re looking for a high performing L-Track 4D massage chair, then the Pro Paragon is your next best choice.
While we have taken a thorough look at the Escape, I have not shared every single feature. A few other noteworthy features are the Bluetooth speakers capable of 4D audio, the extendable foot rest which allows for the chair to accommodate a height range of 5’0-6’3 ft., and of course the foot rollers on each side of the footrest.
Here’s an image which depicts most of the things previously discussed in this post.
And that brings us to the end of this review. I do hope you got some value out of this! If so, please consider sharing on the social platforms, as it really does go a long way in supporting this site. Finally, if you have any burning questions that remain unanswered either for the Escape or any other massage chair, please do leave a comment down below!
