I don’t typically like to review massage chairs that were released 5+ years ago, because by then the technology has evolved just so much that it’s not worth even considering.
You guys are awesome, you truly are! When I’m down and feeling lethargic to write another review, I see your comments and that really inspires me to keep putting out these posts. As I’ve always said, if I can help someone select a massage chair that they are happy with, I’ll consider it as mission accomplished.
Today we’ll be reviewing what now seems to be an ancient massage chair: the Titan Pro Alpha, a 2016 release. It’s about 5 years old, but I know that it was popular back in the day for both it’s features as well as it’s reasonable price tag.
This is the question we will be looking to answer today. In 2016 it might have been worth it for what it could offer, but does that still ring true today?
Of course as I do with mostly all of my posts, I will do a comparison section towards the end which is the basis of my recommendation, the litmus test if you will!
Alright let’s look at some of the Alpha’s key features!
2D stands for 2-dimensional. 2D rollers are the most basic you can find on a massage chair today. Since 2016 there have been massive advancements in massage chair rollers.
Understanding how 2D rollers function is important, so let’s spend some time looking at this.
Now that you understand 2D rollers, let’s talk about this thing called L-Track. Aside from being catchy massage chair lingo, L-Track is simply a metal contraption that allows the rollers to traverse from one point to another.
An L-Track is a kind of long track which allows the rollers to move an extended distance from the neck all the way right down to the glutes and hamstrings. It’s called an L-Track because of the characteristic “L” shape it traces.
A different kind of roller track, known as an S-Track is a shorter roller track which only allows travel from the neck to the lower back.
Note: The L-Track on the Pro Alpha has a total range of 50”.
Another cool feature on the Pro Alpha is you have the ability to save massage to memory. The chair already comes loaded with 6 pre-set auto modes, but you can also operate the chair in manual mode by adjusting intensities, massage styles and timings.
Definitely a slick feature if you’re someone who enjoys diving into the chair’s manual mode and daring enough to explore settings.
Many new chairs today don’t have this feature, so this one is definitely good to have as it may come in handy down the road once you start to get bored of the auto modes.
The foot massage on this one is a little different from what I’ve seen. Titan have done a pretty good job designing the foot rollers on the Alpha.
There is also a third element which adds to the foot massage experience: the air compression massage delivered by the foot airbags. All these 3 combined make for a relieving, effective and pleasant foot massage!
Shoulder width is an important consideration when buying a massage chair. If the shoulders are too tight, the chair and overall experience won’t be comfortable. On the flip-side, it the fit is too loose, massage won’t be as effective as it should be.
This is why it’s so very important to look at how flexible a massage chair (in terms of height and weight) is before buying. This is especially important if you are on either ends of the extreme, that is smaller than average, or larger than average.
The Pro Alpha allows you to adjust shoulder width anywhere from 22” to 17”. If you have broader shoulders, you can push out the shoulders to see if it makes for a more comfortable fit.
According to Titan, the Alpha is able to accommodate a maximum user height of 6’4”and a maximum weight of 235 lbs.
A tough question that most don’t like to answer, but I’m not like most! If you’re on that extreme, I would not recommend going for the Alpha. It may turn out that you’ll end up being fine, but I don’t think it’s worth taking the risk.
It’s almost the end of 2021, so that makes the Alpha a pretty old chair.
Now there’s a few ways to do this. My usual review process entails an “apple to apple” type comparison, that is only comparing like to like chairs. If I’m reviewing a 2D chair, I only compare it to other 2D chairs. I’ll do the same here with the Alpha, but then I’ll deviate and do something I’ve never done!
The purpose of this whole exercise is to ultimately determine if the Alpha is worth buying in 2021, or if you should simply pass and consider something else.
Alright without further ado! We will be comparing the Alpha to Kyota’s E330 Kofuko: a solid 2D chair with a simplistic but very powerful design.
It’s a pretty interesting comparison, don’t you think!?
The E330 is more superior to the Pro Alpha when it comes to operation and experience. For one, the remote control is easier to use and the chair comes loaded with 9 auto modes (3 more than the Pro Alpha).
However, the Alpha dominates in roller track range, boasting an ultra long 50” track compared to the 43” on the E330. User flexibility is decent for both chairs, with the E330 being better suited for smaller to mid range individuals, the E330 also has better weight flexibility.
Looking at space saving recline, the E330 fares much much better than the Alpha! Although the Alpha does have memory save, which the E330 doesnt.
But we are not done yet! We’ve seen how the Pro Alpha does against another 2D chair (it does pretty well!), but what about a 3D chair? Let’s find out!
With an identical price tag to the Kyota E330 Kofuko is Titan’s Pro Omega 3D: a 3D chair with calf and foot rollers, 8 auto modes, and 28 airbags! Let’s see how the Pro Alpha compares against it.
I think it should be pretty clear which is the better chair. In case it’s not, the Pro Omega is by far a better chair than the Pro Alpha, hands down! The 3D rollers alone make for this argument. If you wanted more, the Omega has calf rollers, more auto modes, better space saving, and even better user flexibility!
With all that being said, it comes down to what your budget is and how flexible you are in having to spend a little more. At the end of the day, all 3 chairs we looked at today are worth considering in my honest opinion. All 3 will serve you well!
I hope this has been helpful for you. If it has, a share on the socials would be massively appreciated! Lastly, if you have any unanswered questions or any queries whatsoever, please do not hesitate to drop them down below!
Until next time, take care, be safe and most importantly, be well!
