My last review of a Cozzia chair was way back in December of 2018 when I reviewed the Cozzia 16028 massage chair. I wasn’t entirely impressed then as I thought the pricing was a little off for what the chair offered.
Before we start getting into the nitty gritty, who exactly are Cozzia? For those that don’t know, Cozzia are a subsidiary or sister company to the famous massage chair manufacturer, Ogawa.
Ogawa are a reputable brand in the massage chair game; they’ve maintained this reputation over the years by continuing to put out solid products.
Honestly, it’s a hard question to answer. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought Cozzia was it’s own company totally separate from Ogawa. It’s kinda like Osaki/Titan/APEX which are all sister companies (or one big company), but it’s hard to necessarily identify similarities between any.
Most chairs I’ve reviewed can do 6 massage techniques. The Cozzia CZ-629 can do double of that! This is quite a feat in and of itself.
Massage techniques are basically strokes and movements programmed into the rollers. Each of these techniques are what the rollers perform in the auto modes. In other words, auto modes are simply a variety of routines that combine all the different massage techniques. The 12 different massage techniques consist of 6 special techniques as well as 6 basic techniques.
Special techniques include:
Basic techniques include:
Just when I thought my favourite thing about this chair was its ability to perform 12 different massage techniques, I learn that it comes loaded with an insane 21 auto modes!
With 21 auto modes, boredom will never be an issue!
You can massage everyday for the next 3 weeks with an entirely different auto mode, how cool is that!? Now you’re probably wondering “what’s the fuss around auto modes anyways? a few modes are all I need” I thought the same as you when I purchased my massage chair (with 4 auto modes), and let me tell you it’s not something I would do again!
Unfortunately I don’t have a full listing of all the auto modes, or I would have definitely shared with all of you. If you’re interested in this chair and really want to know what all of these are, leave a comment down below and I’ll contact Cozzia to see if they can provide a listing with a brief description.
Another very cool feature on the Cozzia CZ-629 is that it comes equipped with 3D rollers mounted on an S-Track. Because this might not be clear to all, let’s look at the technical aspects in more detail.
To give you an idea of how the roller technology in the Cozzia CZ-629 compares to other chairs, here’s something to think about:
Everyone likes to know the “intensity” or how strong a massage the rollers can deliver. As you move from 2D to 3D and 3D to 4D, intensity typically also goes up, and that’s because with the added dimensions it’s possible to hike up intensity.
Roller intensity can always be modified so it’s never something that’s set in stone for you to live with. However, generally speaking you can expect anywhere from gentle to vigorous as shown below.
Important Note: The nodes on the 3D rollers can protrude/extend by 3 inches. Why is this important? The farther the roller nodes protrude, the more deeper and intense the massage.
For all the bells and whistles most people go looking for, user flexibility is somewhere at the top of my list. Even though it hardly means a thing for me (as I have a smaller body type) because I’m able to comfortably fit into most massage chairs, it’s incredibly important for everyone to consider!
It’s always folks on the extreme end of things that tend to suffer most! Happy to say that most massage chair manufacturers have recognized this and have designed their chairs to accommodate a large breadth of users.
That’s about 17 inches in user flexibility when looking at height specifically. Unfortunately, the Cozzia CZ-629 might not do so well at accommodating those under 5 feet. I think anyone in the 4’10 ft mark are already limited in what they can choose, and there are only a select few chairs designed to properly fit these individuals.
The way you should approach this is as follows:
It’s really as simple as that. If you take the time to properly consider user flexibility, you’ll enjoy your massage chair because it’ll actually be a comfortable fit!
Another important thing to look at is dimensions. Speaking about dimensions, there’s 2 types you need to consider:
For your convenience, below are both upright and recline dimensions for the Cozzia CZ-629.
The lower extremities are always an area most massage chairs struggle with. I’m talking specifically from the hips downward. This is so because the main set of rollers are only able to reach the tailbone as that is how far the track extends to (true for S-Track chairs).
However, all massage chairs are lacking in this area. I do think it’s only a matter of time before we see a chair with rollers that traverse a full body track! I personally am super stoked for when that day happens!
Foot rollers are necessary because airbag massage in the feet area is not alone sufficient. Air compression is great at the surface level, but to really break up fascia, rollers might be more effective. This is why combining the 2 methods, roller and compression massage, typically works best.
Cozzia CZ-629 comes equipped with dual foot rollers located on either side of the foot ottoman. These rollers work in tandem with the foot airbags to provide a comprehensive massage to the feet.
Important to note that the below is based entirely on my opinion. You must understand that pros and cons are purely subjective, and what I feel is not necessarily what other reviewers may feel.
I certainly think it is, but I do think a comparison needs to be made. Sometimes I’ll review a massage chair and come up with a conclusion in my mind, either positive or negative, but after doing a proper comparison, my decision/conclusion takes a 180 turn!
It would be a rookie mistake and a very foolish one to simply purchase the first massage chair you see. Even though you “fell in love with it”, there might be something better in the market which you have not seen yet because you already made a conclusion. Research, research, and then research some more!
When making a purchase that’s as substantial as this, you need to carefully consider all the alternatives. That being said, let’s compare the Cozzia CZ-629 to 2 similar chairs which both have 3D roller technology (as it’s important to compare apples to apples!). We will be doing comparisons against the Osaki OS Pro Admiral, as well as the Titan Pro Ace II.
As far as 3D massage chairs are concerned, there’s not many better out there than the Pro Admiral. It’s a well rounded chair and Osaki have done an exceptional job ensuring it’s covered in every area, be it auto modes, user flexibility, roller track etc.
If you’ve done your research properly, buying a massage chair will always be a tough decision to make. Tough because you’ll have options to choose from and picking one is far from easy!
And this one thing is a gamechanger. It might not be a gamechanger for many, but it is for me. That’s because I would much rather go for an L-Track versus an S-Track. More coverage, so it’s a no brainer to me! All that being said, I don’t think it’s fair for me to give a final recommendation here.
All 3 chairs are fantastic in their own way. If you’re on a budget, the Pro Ace II is a very good option. The Pro Admiral is more expensive than the Cozzia CZ-629 but it’s a phenomenal unit! The Cozzia CZ-629 is also a beast, and a great option!
That’s it from me! Hope you enjoyed reading and got some value. If you did, please consider sharing on the socials. Until next time!
