While I’m Not Entirely Familiar With Cozzia Chairs, I’ve Heard Good Things!

My last review of a Cozzia chair was way back in December of 2018 when I reviewed the Cozzia 16028 massage chair. I wasn’t entirely impressed then as I thought the pricing was a little off for what the chair offered.

But I’ve had lots of requests to review the Cozzia CZ-629, so here we are!

Before we start getting into the nitty gritty, who exactly are Cozzia? For those that don’t know, Cozzia are a subsidiary or sister company to the famous massage chair manufacturer, Ogawa.

Ogawa are a reputable brand in the massage chair game; they’ve maintained this reputation over the years by continuing to put out solid products.

Which begs the question: how are Cozzia chairs similar/different from Ogawa chairs?

Honestly, it’s a hard question to answer. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought Cozzia was it’s own company totally separate from Ogawa. It’s kinda like Osaki/Titan/APEX which are all sister companies (or one big company), but it’s hard to necessarily identify similarities between any.

Sometimes companies do this kinda thing to gain more market exposure! Does it work? I guess it does!

5 Cool Features To Know About The Cozzia CZ-629 Massage Chair!

#1 It’s Got A Whopping 12 Massage Techniques!

Most chairs I’ve reviewed can do 6 massage techniques. The Cozzia CZ-629 can do double of that! This is quite a feat in and of itself.

What are these 12 massage techniques? But before that, why is this a big deal?

Massage techniques are basically strokes and movements programmed into the rollers. Each of these techniques are what the rollers perform in the auto modes. In other words, auto modes are simply a variety of routines that combine all the different massage techniques. The 12 different massage techniques consist of 6 special techniques as well as 6 basic techniques.

Special techniques include:

Tapotement, stroking, rocking, tractioning, compression, and Balinese. If you count compression that makes it 6 techniques, if not there are 5 in total.

Basic techniques include:

Shiatsu, clapping , tapping, kneading, rolling, and Swedish. These are essentially your basic massage strokes/motions.

#2 It’s Got A Total Of 21 Auto Modes!

Just when I thought my favourite thing about this chair was its ability to perform 12 different massage techniques, I learn that it comes loaded with an insane 21 auto modes!

With 21 auto modes, boredom will never be an issue!

You can massage everyday for the next 3 weeks with an entirely different auto mode, how cool is that!? Now you’re probably wondering “what’s the fuss around auto modes anyways? a few modes are all I need” I thought the same as you when I purchased my massage chair (with 4 auto modes), and let me tell you it’s not something I would do again!

Auto modes equals user experience, and yes you can adjust manual settings to achieve this, but let’s be honest do we really wanna mess with settings!?

Unfortunately I don’t have a full listing of all the auto modes, or I would have definitely shared with all of you. If you’re interested in this chair and really want to know what all of these are, leave a comment down below and I’ll contact Cozzia to see if they can provide a listing with a brief description.

#3 3D Rollers Mounted On An S-Track!

Another very cool feature on the Cozzia CZ-629 is that it comes equipped with 3D rollers mounted on an S-Track. Because this might not be clear to all, let’s look at the technical aspects in more detail.

3D Rollers---Why All The Fuss?
Not The Best Picture, But You Get The Point! When we say 3D, a lot of people immediately think of 3D movies! 3D stands for 3-dimensions. When talking massage chairs, 3D rollers are those that can move in 3-dimensions. What are these dimensions? Up/down along the length of the back, side to side along the width of the back and in and out protruding into and out of the back. To better explain this, see the image above. The arrows depict typical movement of 3D rollers.
S-Track---What Is It?
Cozzia CZ-629 3D RollersWhen we talk of tracks in massage chairs, we are basically talking about the contraption that the rollers are mounted on. Think of it like this, in order to travel from point A to point B on a train, you need to have train tracks. Train tracks are to trains, as roller tracks are to rollers! An S-Track then is just a type of train track, oops I mean roller track! It’s a type of roller track that contours tightly to the spine’s natural “S” shape. It gets its name because of this!

To give you an idea of how the roller technology in the Cozzia CZ-629 compares to other chairs, here’s something to think about:

There are 3 different types of rollers you can presently find on any given massage chair today. These are 2D, 3D, and 4D. 4D are the most advanced, 2D are the least, and 3D is somewhere in between.
There are 3 different types of roller tracks you can similarly find on any given massage chair. These are S-Track, L-Track, and SL-Track. SL is the most advanced of all 3. L-Track is more favoured than S-Track.

Everyone likes to know the “intensity” or how strong a massage the rollers can deliver. As you move from 2D to 3D and 3D to 4D, intensity typically also goes up, and that’s because with the added dimensions it’s possible to hike up intensity.

But what about roller intensity specifically on the Cozzia CZ-620?

Roller intensity can always be modified so it’s never something that’s set in stone for you to live with. However, generally speaking you can expect anywhere from gentle to vigorous as shown below.

Cozzia CZ-629 Intensity

Important Note: The nodes on the 3D rollers can protrude/extend by 3 inches. Why is this important? The farther the roller nodes protrude, the more deeper and intense the massage.

#4 Really Good User Flexibility!

For all the bells and whistles most people go looking for, user flexibility is somewhere at the top of my list. Even though it hardly means a thing for me (as I have a smaller body type) because I’m able to comfortably fit into most massage chairs, it’s incredibly important for everyone to consider!

This becomes even more important when you’re an individual on either ends of the extreme, that is you’re either very short or very tall.

It’s always folks on the extreme end of things that tend to suffer most! Happy to say that most massage chair manufacturers have recognized this and have designed their chairs to accommodate a large breadth of users.

Being able to accommodate users from 5′-6’5 ft, the Cozzia CZ-629 has pretty good user flexibility! It’s also able to accommodate a maximum weight of 300 lbs.

Cozzia CZ-629 User Flexibility

That’s about 17 inches in user flexibility when looking at height specifically. Unfortunately, the Cozzia CZ-629 might not do so well at accommodating those under 5 feet. I think anyone in the 4’10 ft mark are already limited in what they can choose, and there are only a select few chairs designed to properly fit these individuals.

What does user flexibility mean to you specifically, and how should you decide what to get?

The way you should approach this is as follows:

Single—If you’re a single person who will be the only person using the massage chair, all you need to think about is yourself. Therefore, you would consider your own height/weight and verify/confirm that you will comfortably fit your chair of choice.
Family—Spouse, kids, nieces, nephews, parents, grandparents!? The entire clan basically. The big question to ask is who all will be using the chair most and then factor in those heights as well as your own before deciding on a specific massage chair.

It’s really as simple as that. If you take the time to properly consider user flexibility, you’ll enjoy your massage chair because it’ll actually be a comfortable fit!

Another important thing to look at is dimensions. Speaking about dimensions, there’s 2 types you need to consider:

Upright Dimensions—This is basically the length, width, and height of the chair in it’s normal upright position. These are the dimensions you can expect even when the chair is turned off.
Recline Dimensions—This describes the length, width, and height when the chair is fully reclined. Even though it may not seem like it, recline dimensions are just as important as upright!

For your convenience, below are both upright and recline dimensions for the Cozzia CZ-629.

#5 Dual Foot Rollers Located On Either Foot Rest!

The lower extremities are always an area most massage chairs struggle with. I’m talking specifically from the hips downward. This is so because the main set of rollers are only able to reach the tailbone as that is how far the track extends to (true for S-Track chairs).

L-Track chairs are generally better because they allow an extended 20 inches or so down to the hamstrings.

However, all massage chairs are lacking in this area. I do think it’s only a matter of time before we see a chair with rollers that traverse a full body track! I personally am super stoked for when that day happens!

Till then we have to make do with current technology, and that’s where foot rollers become important.

Foot rollers are necessary because airbag massage in the feet area is not alone sufficient. Air compression is great at the surface level, but to really break up fascia, rollers might be more effective. This is why combining the 2 methods, roller and compression massage, typically works best.

Cozzia CZ-629 comes equipped with dual foot rollers located on either side of the foot ottoman. These rollers work in tandem with the foot airbags to provide a comprehensive massage to the feet.

Cozzia CZ-629 Massage Chair: The Good & Bad!

Important to note that the below is based entirely on my opinion. You must understand that pros and cons are purely subjective, and what I feel is not necessarily what other reviewers may feel.

Pros—The Stuff I Like!
Cons—The Stuff I Don’t Like!
    • Pricing Is Pretty Darn Good!—When I look at the price tag for this chair, I think it’s more than reasonable for everything it offers, and it offers a lot! 3D rollers, 21 auto modes, a ton of massage techniques, and very accommodating user flexibility.
    • Auto Modes!—My favourite thing about the Cozzia CZ-629 hands down is the number of auto modes! 21 auto modes means you’ll always have something to pick from. It means you will enjoy the chair without getting bored!
    • User Flexibility—All things considered, the Cozzia CZ-629 will be able to properly fit most users. For those users who are on the extreme end of things, that is over 6’5 or under 5′, you may want to consider something else. The same applies for those who are over 300 lbs.
    • Missing An L-Track—If Cozzia decided to fit this bad boy with an L-Track, it would have transformed what in my mind is a great chair to an absolute beast! A contender for one of the best 3D massage chairs. Alas, we have to make do with an S-Track…..

Cozzia CZ-629 Massage Chair: Is It Worth The Money? $$$?

I certainly think it is, but I do think a comparison needs to be made. Sometimes I’ll review a massage chair and come up with a conclusion in my mind, either positive or negative, but after doing a proper comparison, my decision/conclusion takes a 180 turn!

Why am I telling you all this? Well for the simple reason that you should also do the same!

It would be a rookie mistake and a very foolish one to simply purchase the first massage chair you see. Even though you “fell in love with it”, there might be something better in the market which you have not seen yet because you already made a conclusion. Research, research, and then research some more!

Read up on as many reviews as you can, and don’t simply take what I am saying at face value!

When making a purchase that’s as substantial as this, you need to carefully consider all the alternatives. That being said, let’s compare the Cozzia CZ-629 to 2 similar chairs which both have 3D roller technology (as it’s important to compare apples to apples!). We will be doing comparisons against the Osaki OS Pro Admiral, as well as the Titan Pro Ace II.

Osaki OS Pro Admiral

Osaki OS Pro Admiral Comparison

As far as 3D massage chairs are concerned, there’s not many better out there than the Pro Admiral. It’s a well rounded chair and Osaki have done an exceptional job ensuring it’s covered in every area, be it auto modes, user flexibility, roller track etc.

Titan Pro Ace II
Titan Pro Ace II ComparisonIf you’re in the market for a budget 3D massage chair, you won’t find much better than the Titan Pro Ace II! One of the most reasonably priced massage chairs for all the features it boasts, and everything it offers as a complete massage solution!

“Which Chair Should I Choose?”

If you’ve done your research properly, buying a massage chair will always be a tough decision to make. Tough because you’ll have options to choose from and picking one is far from easy!

Looking at the comparison table above, the Cozzia CZ-629 is the better performing chair in all aspects except for one: it does not come equipped with an L-Track!

And this one thing is a gamechanger. It might not be a gamechanger for many, but it is for me. That’s because I would much rather go for an L-Track versus an S-Track. More coverage, so it’s a no brainer to me! All that being said, I don’t think it’s fair for me to give a final recommendation here.

All 3 chairs are fantastic in their own way. If you’re on a budget, the Pro Ace II is a very good option. The Pro Admiral is more expensive than the Cozzia CZ-629 but it’s a phenomenal unit! The Cozzia CZ-629 is also a beast, and a great option!

That’s it from me! Hope you enjoyed reading and got some value. If you did, please consider sharing on the socials. Until next time!

About Eve

Just an average bloke intrigued by massage and its incredible benefits. Oh, did I mention I also own a massage chair? More on that in the blog posts!
