What Is The Osaki OS 4000LS?
The OS 4000LS is a mid to high end massage chair. Even though its been around for a couple years, it’s still one of the newer units in Osaki’s lineup. That being said, you can expect the latest airbag and roller tracking technology.
The OS 4000LS is very much suited for someone who likes a strong, high intensity massage!
We’ll touch on this later in the post, but for now let’s look at 7 key features of the OS 4000LS!
7 Noteworthy Features Of The Osaki OS 4000LS!
If you’re familiar with Osaki massage chairs, or have been reading my review posts, you’ll notice a striking similarity between the 4000LS & other models such as the pro maxim and 4000T. If all this confuses you, don’t worry about it too much for now. Later in the post, we’ll do a comparison between each of these units, so you can see the exact differences!
#1 42” L-Track Rollers
S-Track, L-Track, 3D, 4D. What in the world do these mean!?
In layman terms, they’re just fancy ways of describing the technology associated with massage chair back rollers!
Let’s look at S-Track & L-Track specifically, since that’s the technology used on this particular chair.
- S-Track—This type of roller system follows the natural “s curvature” of the back. In case you didn’t know, your spine is “s” shaped. As you can now imagine, straight track rollers will probably not be as effective at massaging your back, hence the S-Track!
- L-Track—Most people confuse L-Track and S-Track, when the 2 are really not so different. L-Track is basically S-Track, only with an extended tracking span. L-Track is able to track the neck all the way down to the glutes, and sometimes more. The reason this technology is called L-Track is because of the characteristic “L” shape made from neck to hamstrings or glutes. The image below illustrates exactly what I’m talking about!
This particular chair features quad L-Track rollers that have a tracking span of 42 inches. Quite the distance if you ask me!
#2 Reduced Airbags
Osaki have been working to optimize airbag surface area coverage. This means fewer airbags that can cover maximum area. Although reduced airbags may sound like a bad thing, it really isn’t.
A reduction in airbags results in a direct reduction of power consumption! (fewer valves and pumps)
That being said, the Osaki OS 4000LS has a total of 24 airbags. What’s the purpose of airbags you ask?
They inflate with high pressure air, and provide a compression type massage on surrounding muscle and tissue!
If you’ve ever had your blood pressure taken, that’s kinda how compression massage feels like, although intensity can be increased or decreased.
Where exactly are the airbags located? Osaki have placed airbags in all areas that are outside the reach of rollers. These include shoulders, arms, hands, calves, lower back, and some of the foot area. The image below shows the exact location of all the airbags (shaded in blue).
#3 Space Saving Technology
Another feature you tend to see in most of Osaki’s new lineup is this “space saving technology”, as they like to call it. What is space saving technology anyways?
It’s a common feature in most L-Track chairs. Basically, it’s the chair’s ability to slide slightly forward during normal and reclined operation.
Pretty simple when you think about it. Most airplanes these days have similar chairs, where the main objective is to optimize space.
As such, this chair only requires a mere 4 inches of clearance from the wall. That’s absolutely insane considering most chairs require up to 2 feet clearance. Kudos to Osaki for this one!
#4 Variable Shoulder Widths
The Osaki OS 4000LS has the ability to adjust shoulder widths to 3 different settings:
- Level 1—Shoulder width is set to 9.85”. This is the widest setting. Recommended for anyone with broad shoulders and a large frame.
- Level 2—Shoulder width is set to 8.66”. Recommended for most average builds.
- Level 3—Shoulder width is set to 7.09”. A much tighter fit than levels 1 & 2, level 3 is perfect for smaller body types.
This isn’t a common feature in all Osaki chairs. What it does provide is user flexibility for all body types (small, medium, and large).
#5 Spring Loaded Footrest Extension
Here’s another feature that further adds to the user flexibility discussed above. The foot ottoman in the OS 4000LS is spring loaded, so that it can be extended as required.
If you’re 6 foot tall or more, this could potentially be a game changer!
How does the foot rest extend? You can extend manually by changing a setting on the remote control, or simply push out with your legs to extend it that way. Either way is fine and will achieve the same result.
#6 Zero Gravity
Zero gravity seems to be a commonality in most Osaki chairs; the OS 4000LS is no different. It recline to a zero gravity or “weightless position”, as some like to call it.
Now you can feel like an astronaut every time you get a massage!
There’s several benefits to sitting in a zero gravity position such as reduced spinal stress and reduced overall tension in the muscles. I won’t go into too much detail about it here, but this article talks about some of the key health benefits of sitting in a zero gravity position. Highly recommend you check it out!
#7 6 Different Auto Massage Modes
The Osaki OS 4000LS massage chair features a total of 6 automatic, preset massage modes:
- Full Air—As the name suggests, this is a full on air compression massage! It can get pretty intense, so pick a mild intensity if you’re just starting out.
- Stretch—Similar to the full air mode but with an emphasis on stretching the entire body.
- Relax—Mostly targeted towards the back. A kneading, tapping combo that gets progressively intense!
- Deep Tissue—Full body massage at a fairly high intensity.
- Manual Air—Same as full air, but this time you choose what areas to focus on (shoulders, lower back, calves etc.).
- Energy—A full body, low intense tapping massage. Mild to say the least!

Here’s What I Think About The Osaki OS 4000LS Massage Chair!
What I Like About It (Pros)
As discussed earlier, the OS 4000LS has 3 different shoulder width levels (see #4 above). Of all the awesome things this chair is capable of, this is probably my favorite. Why? Having a tight, snug shoulder fit isn’t only important for shoulder massage, it also ensures your back and neck are properly postured, so the rollers are able to effectively target and massage all areas!
My biggest concern with most massage chairs is that they don’t pay enough attention to the lower extremities. Areas like the hamstrings, glutes, and calves are only subjected to compression massage, which in my opinion is not enough. I love L-Track chairs because they kinda address this concern to some extent. It would be nice if these rollers went all the way down to the calves. Can’t blame me for dreaming right!
The OS 4000LS is in my opinion one of the best chairs for tight spaces, and this is mostly because of the space saving technology (see #3 above). The fact that you only need a 4 inch clearance from the wall is insane. This makes the 4000LS incredibly flexible as far as placement is concerned. In case you’re wondering, upright (47”H x 31”W x 63”D) and recline dimensions (34”H x 31”W x 78”D) aren’t all that bad either!
Not something that makes too big a difference for me since i’m a pretty small guy (5’4 ish and 120 lbs). However, if you’re 6 foot and above, the ability to extend the foot rest becomes vital. Again, this all comes down to user flexibility. A good massage chair has to be flexible in order to comfortably accommodate users of different heights and weights. That being said, the OS 4000LS is right up there with the best!
What I Don’t Like About It (Cons)
How Does It Compare To Other Massage Chairs?
The OS 4000LS is in many ways eerily identical to the Pro Maxim. Both have similar price points, both are fairly new Osaki models, and both can be considered mid to high end chairs. Before we look at some of the key differences between the two, here’s my complete review on the Pro Maxim. You may want to check it out!

Difference #1: 42” Vs. 47” Roller Track
Pro Maxim has a larger track span than the OS 4000LS. To be specific, 5 inches more. Does this make a difference? Absolutely it does. It’s almost half a foot more of roller coverage!
Difference #2: Number Of Airbags
Pro Maxim has 22 airbags, whereas OS 4000LS has 24. Both chairs take advantage of Osaki’s next gen airbag technology. The objective with this technology is to optimize surface area coverage, and reduce overall number of airbags. In my opinion, the difference between airbags is so minor, that it won’t have an overall impact on performance. Irrespective, it’s definitely worth noting!
Difference #3: Bluetooth Speakers w/ LED Lighting
Speakers and lighting don’t make much of a difference to me, as I’m more concerned with a chair’s performance. That being said, you should know that the Pro Maxim comes with Bluetooth friendly speakers encased in blue LED lighting. The OS 4000LS doesn’t include this feature.
Difference #4: Auto Programs (12 Vs. 6)
Pro Maxim has 12 auto programs, 4000LS has 6. A huge difference, and definitely something that would influence what I decide to buy, especially considering how frequently I use auto modes. Another game changer!
Difference #5: Remote Controls (Tablet Vs. Slim LCD Remote)
What would you rather have: touch screen tablet or slim LCD remote? If you’re like me, you’ll pick the tablet any day. It’s a no brainer, really. Pro Maxim comes with a touch screen tablet to control and operate the chair; 4000LS uses a slim LCD remote.
Difference #6: Automatic Vs. Spring Loaded Foot Rest
Pro Maxim has an automatic foot rest which extends out and holds its position. In contrast, OS 4000LS has a spring loaded foot rest that doesn’t adjust automatically. A small distinction that’s worth noting!
Million Dollar Question: What Should You Get?
If you’ve read this far, kudos!
We’ve talked about all the incredible features present in the Osaki OS 4000LS massage chair, but is it worth the money or should you go for Osaki’s Pro Maxim instead?
Now remember, both of these chairs are at a very identical price point, so cost should not be a factor in your decision.
That being said, both chairs are mid to high end, and both cost a premium. Provided the price meets your budget, you could choose either one, but here’s what I recommend:
If it were me, I’d pick the Pro Maxim ten times over the OS 4000LS!
The 6 differences listed above more than justify this decision. 12 auto modes, 47” roller track, and a touch screen tablet for a remote! Sorry but for an identical price, it makes 100% sense to go for the Pro Maxim. Nothing against the 4000LS, I think it’s still an awesome unit. If the price were considerably lower, my decision might be different!

Osaki OS 4000CS Vs 4000LS: What’s The Difference?
Osaki OS 4000CS is pretty much the exact same chair as the 4000LS, with one major difference:
4000LS has kneading foot rollers, and the 4000CS doesn’t.
The Osaki OS 4000CS massage chair instead uses airbag compression to massage the feet. Do foot rollers make all that much of a difference? I certainly think so!
Air compression alone is not effective. You need to have a good mix of kneading, rolling, and compression to get the most out of massage. And let’s not forget how awesome foot rolling can feel!
If you have your mind set on either getting the Osaki OS 4000CS or 4000LS, I recommend the 4000LS. And if I were you, I wouldn’t even get the 4000 LS, I’d get the Pro Maxim!
