A Popular 2021 Release!

Today we’ll be looking at a late 2021 summer release from Osaki: the AmaMedic Juno II. It’s a 2D L-Track chair capable of performing body scan prior to massage. We’ll go through the key features in a bit here, but for now just wanted to talk at a high level.

I decided to review the Juno II because of the positive reviews it has received in the last couple of months!

It’s been a bit since I last reviewed a 2D chair so this one should be interesting! I will say that even though 2D rollers are an outdated technology, manufacturers continue to use this system because it’s tried and tested. Most manufacturers have gotten really well at integrating 2D rollers over the years, and it’s essentially for this reason that we continue to see these on newer 2021 and 2022 releases.

Not to mention it costs less to manufacture compared to 3D & 4D, so there is that!

Osaki AmaMedic Juno II: A Few Key Features You Should Know Of!

I’m gonna forgo talking about what I consider the “standard” stuff. I’m talking zero gravity, Bluetooth speakers, remote holders etc. Not that these are not important, it’s that most massage chairs you look at all come equipped with the standard features (of course a few exceptions to this!).

I’d rather focus on the features that distinguish the Juno II from others. That being said, here are a few I’d like to bring to your attention!

#1 2D L-Track Rollers!

We touched on the 2D rollers earlier on in the post, but let’s look at it in more detail here. What are 2D rollers, and maybe let’s even take one more step back and talk about what rollers are and why they are important anyways.

Because rollers are the primary component for delivering massage to the majority of the body, they also are the most important for this exact reason.

To put it another way: there is no massage in massage chair if you were to remove the rollers! Let that sink in for a moment. This is why so much emphasis on rollers. Everyone is talking about them – manufacturers spinning all kinds of lingo and consumers confused silly with all of this!

One person is talking 2D, 3D, and 4D, another is talking S-Track, L-Track, and SL-Track! Where do you start and where do you end?

We’ll make it simple and only talk about 2D & L-Track since that’s all you need to know when talking about the Juno II. Before we get into that, I do feel that having a visual image of what rollers look like will be helpful. Here’s the Juno II specifically!

AmaMedic Juno II 2D Rollers

Aha now it makes a bit more sense, doesn’t it!? 2D rollers are as simple as they come. 2D stands for 2-dimensional and this is exactly how the rollers move. That is, they move up and down along the length of the back and side to side along the width of the back. The image below illustrates this exactly.

2D Rollers Move Up/Down & Left/Right

It’s pretty simple right? When you hear 2D, think vertical and horizontal movement/motion. Nothing more to it. Now you can see why this kind of roller system is so popular with massage chair manufacturers. It’s incredibly easy to incorporate and design around!

Coming to L-Track. L-Track is a type of roller track in which the rollers can move an extended distance all the way from the neck right down to the glutes and hamstrings. Basically it’s a metal contraption that is molded in the shape of an “L”. The image below shows the shape of a typical L-Track!

You also have the ability to adjust speed (5 levels), strength (5 levels), and width (up to 3 levels) on these rollers. It’s definitely good to have these options, because it gives you the flexibility to adjust and fine tune to suit your needs specifically.

#2 10 Auto Massage Modes To Pick From!

Probably one of my favorite things about the Juno II is that it comes loaded with 10 auto modes to pick from. Having a good number of auto modes to choose from is an important consideration for anyone purchasing a massage chair.

Even if you’re on the fence about it and think that you’ll be okay with 3 or 4 auto modes, you may live to regret this decision months and years down the road!

How do I know this? Well because yours truly made this exact mistake! Yes the chair I purchased (way back when!) only came loaded with 4 auto modes. Now that I’ve used each mode over and over again, using my massage chair doesn’t excite me all that much.

Yes this is also because the auto modes aren’t the best choreographed, but there’s also an element of boredom that comes into play!

Happy to report that you won’t have this issue on the Juno II. With 10 well choreographed auto modes to pick from, you can mix it up and keep things fresh! What are the 10 auto modes on this chair?

Any of the 10 can be toggled/activated directly from the remote control. These are: healthy, Thai, body care, tai chi, joint care, classic, wake up, relax, stretch, and revitalize.

It’s a good combination of what I’d consider mild, medium, and high intense massage routines. A question I often get asked a lot about: can a 2D chair provide deep tissue massage? Sadly, the answer is no (irrespective of what a manufacturer may tell you!).

2D rollers are restricted in how they can move, and it’s this restriction which kinda limits how intense of a massage you can experience. With 3D & 4D rollers, there’s definitely more possibilities.

#3 Foot Rollers That Are Silent

I found this funny more than anything! I’ve never come across foot rollers on a massage chair that were “noisy”, so not sure why the need to go with silent foot rollers, but okay I guess!

These days folks will market every single thing at every single opportunity. Let your judgement guide you and hopefully you’ll see things as they are!

Anyways, coming back to the silent foot rollers, these are essentially your regular spinning foot rollers that work in tandem with foot airbags to provide a foot massage.

Not complaining about this as foot rollers are a must in my opinion, but would’ve been nice to also have calf rollers. It’s not the cheapest of 2D chairs, so I think it’s fair to expect!

Osaki AmaMedic Juno II Pros & Cons!

Pros—The Stuff I Like!
Cons—The Stuff I Don’t Like!
    • 36 Airbags Coupled w/ 2D L-Track Works Well!—A solid mix of air and roller massage helps to provide a comprehensive, and relaxing full body massage experience.
    • Auto Modes Are Plentiful!—Which is great because it means there’s something for pretty much everyone. If you like lighter strokes, you’re covered. If you like intense, you’re also covered (but not deep tissue intense!).
    • Aesthetics Are On Point!—Aesthetically speaking, I think the Juno II is a 10/10. Everything from the chair design, upholstery, trims, and color combinations, everything is on point. My favorite is the black and cream combo!
    • Heat Therapy Is Lacking—For what it costs, I think lumbar heat is not enough. I’d have expected to see both lumbar and calf heating. Oh well…..
    • Calf Rollers Would’ve Been Nice!—Just like the heat therapy, it would be nice to have calf rollers on this chair. Again, not baseless ranting, just me considering what this costs and what I think it should have based on that. But it is subjective at the end of the day, so take from it what you will.

Should You Buy Or Pass On The Osaki AmaMedic Juno II Massage Chair?

Despite my earlier rants, I am pretty fond of the Juno II, and that’s because it does really well in all the other areas.

    • Compression massage? 36 airbags.
    • Auto modes? Plenty to pick from.
    • Extended massage coverage? L-Track got you sorted.
    • Overall User Experience? Check! – Bluetooth speakers and wireless and USB charging works well.
    • Ease of Operation? Remote control or quick select dial makes it easy!

All things considered, the Juno II is a solid high performing 2D chair. As I do with all my massage chair reviews, I will compare it against another 2D chair to give you some flavor – in this case the Kyoto Kofuko E330. The E330 is a fantastic option as well and also a well known brand manufactured by the same folks who do Infinity chairs.

Both are quite similar in most areas, but i think the Juno II wins as it offers a bit more than the E330. I also think the Juno II looks a trillion times better! Definitely has a more modern feel to it, and looks like it would pair well in most areas.

Final Recommendation: If you’re in the market for a 2D chair, the Juno II will not disappoint! There’s definite room for improvement in the next model/iteration, but all the main things check off nicely!
